Great Romantic Organ Music

This release is another from a record label (York) that released Ambisonic/UHJ albums, that unfortunately closed it’s doors many years ago. There doesn’t appear to be anyone making these recordings available now so we are reliant on sourcing the original releases.

Thankfully i have a, slowly growing, reasonably sized collection, so there’s at least one person attempting to archive the labels output should they never see the light of day again.

Release: DSC152u2q

Source: Ambisonic/UHJ CD

Process: U2Q

Format: DVD-A/V  MLP/DTS/DD

A comfirmed Quadraholic i believed that the textbooks were wrong and near discrete decoding of the SQ & QS matrix systems was possiblke... and i've proven it in the 'Mythical' decoding process's.

  1. Romantic organ music rarely sets my pulse racing (the swell box always sounds like a cinema organ device to my ears!) though Franck (not on this disc) and Brahms made worthy contributions to the genre. Still, the sound is pleasingly sonorous, and after the first two tracks, one gets a good sense of the acoustic, though it isn’t very directional. The exception is a confusing effect where, in tracks 1,2 and 8 (Tournemire, Jongen and Liszt) the higher partials of the trumpet stop seem to come from the rear left channel. Yet I know that some acoustic spaces can create quite odd anomalies of this kind… What do others think
